Mthatha, Eastern Cape — At Transkei Primary School, our motto Super Omnia Veritas (Truth Above All)

isn’t just a slogan for our senior learners; it is a promise we make to every child who enters our gates, starting from the very first steps of their educational journey.

This year marks a historic milestone in our 32-year legacy with the official launch of our expanded Nursery Phase pilot project, now catering to Grade RRR (the "Babies" and Toddlers) and Grade RR.

A Community-Driven Expansion

The decision to expand our early childhood offering was born out of a direct response to the Mthatha community. For years, parents have requested a specialized, safe, and academically-grounded environment that provides a seamless transition into our established Foundation Phase.

"The response from the community has been nothing short of massive," says the school administration. "We knew there was a need, but the speed at which our initial streams filled up confirms that parents are looking for the 'TPS Standard' from as early as age three."

More Than Just Childcare: The Grade RRR & RR Experience

Our Nursery Phase is designed to be a "home away from home," but with a distinct focus on Early Childhood Development (ECD). While play is at the center of everything we do, our curriculum is structured to build the sensory and motor skills necessary for later academic success.

  • Grade RRR (The Discovery Phase): Focuses on social integration, sensory play, and basic routine. Our climate-controlled facilities ensure that our youngest learners are comfortable and secure throughout the day.

  • Grade RR (The Preparation Phase): Serves as a vital bridge to Grade R. Here, learners begin to explore pre-literacy and pre-numeracy concepts through storytelling, music, and guided play.

Why the Pilot Project Matters

By introducing Grade RRR and RR, we are ensuring that when a child reaches Grade 1, they are already familiar with the school’s culture, values, and environment. This "head start" reduces transition anxiety and allows for a more accelerated learning curve in the Foundation Phase.

Important: The Admissions Window

In light of the massive response to this pilot project, the school wishes to remind parents that the formal application period for the following academic year typically occurs between February and March.

Given that we are currently in this peak enrollment window, we urge parents to submit their documentation promptly. Applying during this February–March period is critical for securing a place, as the high volume of interest means that streams often reach capacity well before the middle of the year.

Future Outlook

Due to the overwhelming success of these initial stages, the school is already looking at ways to optimize and sustain these streams. With our current expansion to four classes per grade in the higher levels, the Nursery Phase serves as the essential roots for the growing TPS tree.

Admissions Note: Join us as we nurture the next generation of truth-seekers from their very first day of school. Please ensure all application forms are collected and returned to the front office before the end of March to be considered for the next intake.
